Better Energy (be.)

logo

For information on the Dakota County CDA Weatherization Program for home improvements >>>

The be. Apple Valley program is designed to help Apple Valley homeowners improve their homes by reducing their energy use and saving money at the same time. The City of Apple Valley has teamed up with Dakota Electric, CenterPoint Energy and the Center for Energy and Environment through grants from the Joyce Foundation and the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund to offer Apple Valley homeowners this full service residential energy program, be. (better energy) Apple Valley. We would like to invite you to participate in this unique one-stop energy program!

The be. program includes:

  • FREE educational workshops to teach homeowners how to lower their energy use while lowering their utility bills through low-cost/no-cost measures;
  • Low-cost/no-cost materials to help participants save now;
  • Customized home energy visits from qualified unbiased professionals who will identify additional ways for residents to save in their homes, including a blower door test. Up to $400 worth of services and materials for only a $20 co-pay;
  • 12 months of personalized energy tracking and feedback to show the homeowner how these low-cost/no-cost measures resulted in decreased energy use and allowing participants to compare their energy use to that of their neighbors also participating in the program (confidentially of course);
  • Financing, incentives and rebates for those wishing to complete larger projects such as insulation or a furnace replacement.

There are a variety of ways you can get involved in the be. Apple Valley program. To learn more about upcoming meetings >>>:

Special Note for Townhome and Condo Residents!

All residents are invited to attend the workshops and learn how they can save energy in their homes. However, regarding the home visits, townhouses and condominiums are excluded from this round of the study because of the issue of association bylaws and multiple adjacent units. This adds a complexity beyond the current capabilities of our residential energy program. Townhouses and condominiums are more effectively treated through a holistic approach working with the occupants and the association while applying multi-family building methods. The intent is that the program will grow to include townhomes and condominiums at a later date.

Data Release Form- Required for utility data to create your individual energy use inventory.

Participant Survey- Used to inform our home visit professionals about your homes unique energy profile.

For more information about the program contact Ashley Robertson at (612)335-5869 or arobertson@mncee.org. We know that with the participation of Apple Valley residents we can make this program a success!

For businesses, there will be a business component to the Be. program in the future. In the meantime, Dakota Electric and CenterPoint energy have representatives who specialize in helping business and industry reduce energy use and save money.
