Economic Development Strategies and Available Properties
Economic Development Strategies Comp Plan Chapter on Economic Development >>> The City has 5 major strategies to increase economic opportunities for our residents. 1) Attract large employers primarily in the designated Mixed Business Campus area. 2) Unify and encourage redevelopment in the Downtown area using the Cedar Avenue and County Road 42 road and transit system improvements as a trigger. 3) Connect Apple Valley to the region in new ways by using advances in communication, technology and transit. 4) Act as a partner to guide vitality through new development, redevelopment and support to existing commercial properties. 5) Attract businesses focused on science, technology, engineering and
math (STEM), and provide opportunities for a well-educated and fairly
compensated workforce. The City has completed its 2030 Update to the Comprehensive Guide Plan, and for the first time included a chapter on Economic Development. A central feature of the plan is the creation of a 210-acre Mixed Business Campus located in the southeast area of the City. The Mixed Business Campus is envisioned as an environmentally sustainable place that mixes high-density housing with a variety of office, manufacturing, research and development, and other associated facilities. About 40 acres of this area can be dedicated to the development of medical facilities, such as specialty clinics and outpatient services that may also include education and training opportunities. This business campus is to become a model for economic development on Apple Valley's Green Frontier and we welcome your interest and support to make this plan a reality. To search for available commercial or industrial properties in Minnesota's 11-county Metro MSP region, go to www.MetroMSP.org and click on "Search Properties." It takes you to a powerful, GIS-based site selection tool that enables you to locate buildings or land, pull up site-specific demographic data, and generate valuable reports.
