Sidewalks and Pathways
The city inspects and repairs approximately 130 miles of sidewalk and 52 miles of pathway along the street right of way. Snow and ice removal is the homeowner’s responsibility on public sidewalks abutting their property. View the sidewalks and pathways map. Please contact the Public Works Department at (952) 953-2400 to report maintenance issues.

Bike Walk Apple Valley Trail and Sidewalk Plan
During the summer of 2010, the city undertook a study to help identify and prioritize missing trail segments. In addition to identifying 17 miles of gaps in the trail system, the study helped to prioritize which missing trails to construct first as funding becomes available. The plan also presents a vision to help Apple Valley become a more walkable and bikeable community. View the Bike Walk Apple Valley Trail and Sidewalk Plan.

Safe Routes to School Studies
In 2010, Dakota County Public Health worked with 17 public schools to develop Safe Routes to School (SRTS) comprehensive plans. Four of the schools studied are located in Apple Valley: Greenleaf Elementary, Cedar Park Elementary STEM, Diamond Path Elementary-School of International Studies, and Southview Elementary. These plans examine the five E’s - Education, Encouragement, Enforcement, Engineering, and Evaluation and include short- and long-term recommendations to improve walking and biking to school for students.

North Creek Greenway
The North Creek Greenway travels through Apple Valley, Lakeville, Farmington, and Empire Township. The greenway plans connect Lebanon Hills Regional Park through the Minnesota Zoo to the Vermillion River Wildlife Management Area covering 14 miles. It will serve as a recreational spine connecting schools, parks, lakes, and open space through the growing suburban landscape. Approximately 5 miles of the trail will be located within city limits. View the North Creek Greenway Video and the Northcreek Greenway Map.
