Building permits are required for all new commercial buildings, commercial additions, alterations, and remodeling. Most commercial building plans must be signed and stamped by a Minnesota licensed architect and professional engineer.
Two sets of hard copy building plans and one electronic set are required to be submitted with the permit application. Commercial plans shall be drawn to scale and show room sizes and total square footage. Also, please indicate if the building has a fire suppression system. One copy will be returned and must remain on the job site. Plans are reviewed in the order received.
Please Note: Due to the adoption of the 2015 State Building Code, some information in the permit handouts may not be updated in accordance with the new code. These code changes will be addressed during the plan review process as we transition to the new codes. Please contact the Building Inspections Division at (952) 953-2588 with any questions.
