Clearing snow and ice on private property is encouraged in all cases, but please remember pushing snow onto or even across public ways is not allowed.
Ensuring that snow removal is conducted in a compliant manner is the responsibility of homeowners, renters, commercial property owners, business owners and managers, home owners associations, and even contractors. Snow may not be pushed across any public street, sidewalk, or right-of-way area. All snow and ice cleared from areas on private property must remain entirely on private property. The pushing of snow across public ways can cause undue damage to city streets and other infrastructure.
Unlawful deposits of snow in the right of way can interfere with normal snow removal operations on city streets and can cause damage to snow clearing equipment. All residents and property owners who contract snow removal on their properties should inform the contractor of these requirements and ensure the contractor’s operations are conducted in a manner compliant with city ordinances.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding snow removal requirements, or to report concerns in your area please contact Ben Pierson in Code Enforcement by phone at 952.953.2571, or by email at bpierson@ci.apple-valley.mn.us.
