Recent notable actions:

  1. 3/13/2020 – Governor Tim Walz “Declares a Peacetime Emergency and Coordinating Minnesota’s Strategy to protect Minnesotans from COVID-19”. In that order, Minnesotans are urged to stay home when feeling sick, frequently wash hands, and follow Minnesota Department of Health guidance regarding hygiene, public gatherings, social distancing and healthcare use.
  2. 3/15/2020 – Governor Tim Walz further “Authorized and Directed the Commissioner of Education to Temporarily Close Schools to Plan for a Safe Educational Environment” and places where people gather like events and restaurants. The initial closure period is stated as 3/18/2020 through 3/27/2020 , with a requirement that children of health, emergency medical services, long term and acute care professionals, and law enforcement ( only a partial list as examples) are offered to be cared for at school locations, practicing recommended hygiene and social distancing best practices.
  3. 3/15/2020 – Mayor Mary Hamann-Roland “Declared a Local Peace Time Emergency Due to COVID-19 Health Pandemic”. This Proclamation acknowledges the actions taken by the Governor, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommendations related to halting gatherings of more than 50 people ( now down to 10 ), and recognizes the situation threatens the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of the community.
  4. On Tuesday, March 17, the City Council held an emergency meeting at 3:00 p.m. affirming the Mayor’s Proclamation and acting to restrict access to the Municipal Center and other public buildings by the public for an extended time to be determined.
