What, where, and how vehicles are parked on private property can affect immediate neighbors and the neighborhood at large. Here is a quick overview of standards established by city ordinance.
All motor vehicles regardless of type or placement on a trailer must be parked on an improved parking surface. An improved parking surface is considered to be concrete, asphalt, or pavers. When parked in front yards, all vehicles and trailers must be parked on the established driveway. Any area intended for parking, storing, or maneuvering should also be hard-surfaced (concrete, asphalt, or pavers). Please remember that sidewalks should never be blocked by parked vehicles. Trailers and un-motorized recreation vehicles such as boats may be stored in side and rear yards on un-improved surfaces.
Non-passenger vehicles (Food trucks/Tow trucks/semi-tractors/buses/etc.) are prohibited in residential neighborhoods except for when rendering a service. No more than four vehicles may be parked on a property at any given time. Where regular outdoor parking is needed for more than 4 passenger vehicles a residential parking permit may be obtained which will allow up to 6 vehicles. This requirement does not apply to vehicles parked on public streets. Please follow the link below for an application for the residential vehicle parking permit. Vehicles must remain in operable condition and properly licensed when parked outside on private property.
There are two types of trailers; Class I and Class II each differentiated by their size. Class I trailers are less than 8 feet in height and less than 22 feet in length from hitch to taillight. Class II trailers are larger than 22 feet in length or 8 feet in height. On lots smaller than one acre, no more than two Class I trailers are permitted or a combination of one class I and one Class II trailers. No more than one class II trailer should be parked at a residential property less than one acre in area, under any circumstance. Up to four trailers of any type may be stored on residential lots larger than one acre when at least two are screened from view of neighboring properties and public roads. Trailers must be clear of storage and debris at all times.
