[ARCHIVED] Sky Lanterns Prohibited in Minnesota!

The State Fire Marshal of Minnesota reminds us that any type of balloon which requires fire underneath to propel it is illegal.

The State Fire Marshal of Minnesota has submitted an open letter to the citizens of Minnesota reminding them that "any type of balloon which requires fire underneath to propel" it is illegal to use in Minnesota.

Whether identified as "Sky Lanterns", "Celebration Lanterns" or other names, these lights are released to free float away from the point of launch. With open flame and a combustible structure, they pose a distinct fire and safety threat to any people, property, and nature in and around their flight path.

Retailers are asked to voluntarily remove these items from their shelves at this time. Consumers who have already purchased them are encouraged to return them for a refund or dispose of them safely without using them.
