[ARCHIVED] Recent thefts from motor vehicles

Thefts from vehicles continue to be a problem for Apple Valley residents.

Over the past two weeks, the Apple Valley Police Department has responded to 10 Thefts From Motor Vehicle calls. These preventable crimes are still being committed even though the weather has been fiercely cold. Some thefts occurred at private residences, some at business within the City. In some instances the vehicles were left unlocked but in several reports, valuables were visible in locked vehicles and windows were broken to gain entrance.

Apple Valley citizens are urged to remember to lock your vehicle whenever you are away from it, even when it is parked in your driveway or garage and to remove ALL items from your vehicle, even items that aren’t valuable with regards to monetary value (i.e. gym bags, overnight bags, suitcases, tote bags, empty laptop bags, etc.) Thieves are looking in vehicles for anything that looks interesting or something they can use (phone chargers included).
Most thefts that were reported happened during the early evening hours, 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. or overnight.

Remember to report all suspicious activity to 911 whenever it is noticed or if you discover you have been the victim of a crime.
