The first day of spring is this Thursday, March 20th. While spring cleaning, please consider these tips that will help you make your yard a more pleasant place to enjoy the warm weather this summer.

Disposing of yard waste and other debris!

As a resident of the City of Apple Valley and Dakota County you have numerous options available to you for disposal of yard waste and unwanted household items. Yard waste can be disposed of by transporting the material to the mulch store located in Burnsville. Unwanted items including house hold appliances, furniture, construction debris, etc. can be dropped off at numerous collections sites, or arranged for special pick-up through your trash hauler. For a complete list of resources and disposal options available to residents visit the county’s website at www.co.dakota.mn.us. Discarded items such as furniture may not be placed outside on private property or in boulevard areas for “FREE” collection.

Cleaning up after your pet!

Let’s face it; snow, ice, and cold winter weather can hinder adequate clean-up of lawn areas after our pets during the winter months. This spring, when the snow and ice melt completely, please remember to clean all lawn areas of pet waste thoroughly. This will not only make your lawn a more pleasant place for your own enjoyment, but it is a good way to be a great neighbor! Apple Valley City code prohibits animal waste accumulation on private property and requires immediate pick-up off-premise.
